CH 2 TEACHING COURAGEOUSLY: SHOWING HOW

Blessed be God!

Showing How??? I have being showed how to be a teacher. My journey is short but I believe I have the passion to live my vocation as an adventure. An adventure where Jesus has been my Companion along the way. I can share many moments in my life as a Religious Teacher where I felt clearly his presence.
After reading this article many "AHA moments" (You know one of those times that all the pieces fall into place) came to my reflection. Things that I have done before but now I can recognize more their importance. Like... I try to teach my kids how to KNOW, how to have the desire of learning by doing meaningful activities in my classes. Working along with my principal to create an atmosphere where we can make hospitality for our faculty (who has struggled a lot to get along to each other), I usually set a time during my preps to go and observe other teachers. I have learned so much from them. I love how the first grade teacher teaches her students to be polite.

One of the things that I guess...I am not totally agree is to throw out my plan books. It doesn't mean that I don't start my teaching fresh trying to meet the needs of my new class. It is because I am the kind of person that I am going to check them out and make them better, but I really need that support in order to do it.

I truly believe teaching is a HOLY WORK. I always ask the Holy Spirit to guide me and I am open to keep learning..." A Teacher becomes a better teacher by teaching".

  1. I agree with so much you say Sr. Eloisa! Teaching is truly Holy Work and I feel I am following in Jesus' amazing example of being a rabbi or teacher. I call on His inspiration often. He helps me find my aha moments. :)

I also did not like the idea of throwing out my plans from the year past! I write what didn't work in my plan book and leave other comments that are very helpful! I think we should build and change and edit but I do not think that means throwing out all material either.

  2. I am so happy that you mentioned that teaching is an adventure. That is one of the aspects of the chapter that I enjoyed most. It is so amazing that we work in a profession that can be described as an adventure! How lucky are we? Your students are very lucky that they have a teacher who has such a great outlook on what she does. Teaching is Holy work and it was so great of you to mention Jesus as our companion, more of us should give credit where it is due. The AHA moments in life are some of the most exciting times. I am so glad that you experienced one while reading this chapter, because that is how I felt too. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Hello Sr Eloisa, I appreciate how you have been successful in inspiring students to make use of their imagination. It is quite important today in the technological world to make use of this faculty in a proper and positive way. We as teacher do need imagination as well.
